The Catalan newspaper “Sport” reported that Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta offered valuable advice to the team’s coach, German Hans Flick, during the crucial final hours of the summer transfer window. The report highlights that the injury to young player Marc Bernal has created a significant challenge for Barcelona, which is in need of a standout player to continue competing effectively.
Iniesta advised Barcelona to act swiftly in the transfer market, suggesting the sale of Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong. Despite de Jong’s talent, Iniesta believes his performance does not align with Barcelona’s current goals, making his sale a viable option for the club.
Additionally, Iniesta recommended signing Paris Saint-Germain’s Fabian Ruiz, who impressed during the Euro 2024 Championship. Iniesta feels Ruiz could be a valuable addition, filling the gap left by the injured Bernal and potentially offering a performance level equal to or exceeding that of the recently departed Ilkay Gundogan.
Iniesta believes that the Spanish player is significantly better than Gundogan, making him the ideal choice to bolster Barcelona’s midfield for the upcoming period. The newspaper also noted that Luis Enrique is keen on acquiring Dutch player Frenkie de Jong and would likely agree to a swap deal with Barcelona in exchange for Fabian Ruiz.
