“That is football” – Zinedine Zidane names 3 Real Madrid players when asked to choose players who impressed him the most as coach

The Frenchman Zinedine Zidane, the former coach of Real Madrid, surprised everyone by choosing the best players he trained at the Royal Club. Zidane presented wonderful seasons with Real Madrid, where his most notable achievement is winning the Champions League title three times in a row.
The legend Zidane spoke about a number of topics related to Real Madrid, most notably when he was asked about the most prominent players he trained, and he believes that they were distinct from other players.

Zidane said: When you see Modric, Kroos and Benzema playing under your leadership without losing a single ball, this is football in the literal sense. The joy of football is greater than just scoring goals, although goals are certainly important, but football is not limited to scoring goals, and there are only other aspects.

“Players who impressed me the most as a coach? When you see Kroos, Modrić & Benzema playing for you for an hour without losing a single ball, that is football.”

The trio are three of the greatest players in Real Madrid history. Benzema is the second-highest scorer in the club’s history with 354 goals, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo with 450. The Frenchman also provided 165 assists in 648 games before leaving as a free agent in 2023.

Kroos, meanwhile, recorded 28 goals and 99 assists in 465 appearances for the Merengues before announcing his retirement this summer. Modric, on the other hand, has scored 39 goals and provided 86 assists in 234 games for Real Madrid. He is the most decorated player in the club alongside Nacho Fernandez with 26 trophies.

Real Madrid fans were surprised by this statement, as the fans believe that Cristiano Ronaldo should be at the top of the list of the most prominent players that Zidane trained with Real Madrid, especially since Cristiano was one of the most important reasons for Zidane’s successes in his first term.
