As part of the 2024 Winter Market, Mundo Deportivo reports on Barcelona’s transfer and acquisition activity.
Both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo have made a positive impact for Barcelona ever since they joined the club in September. Because of this, it is not surprising that Blaugrana would be interested in purchasing the Portuguese duo.
The general consensus is that Barcelona will make another attempt to acquire both players during the summer of 2019. With that being said, Mundo Deportivo has recently reported that transfer activities could be taken as early as January. They anticipate that the value of Cancelo and Felix will increase if they continue to play explosively, and as a result, they want to finalize both deals within the next month on the basis of this prediction.
While Atletico Madrid is looking to pay more than 80 million euros for Felix, Barcelona is only willing to pay 40 million euros for him. There is also the possibility of reaching an agreement on a player-plus-cash deal in order to avoid overpaying for the player; however, this begs the question of whether the Blaugrana would “scapegoat” which player. According to reports, Manchester City is reportedly interested in Cancelo and is willing to spend 25 million euros for him, but Barcelona is only willing to pay 15 million euros.
The fact that Cancelo and Felix are both committed to remaining with the club in order to continue playing football gives Barcelona a certain amount of confidence. On the other hand, when compared to Manchester City and Atletico Madrid, they are operating in a position that is less advantageous financially.
