Live from Fabrizio Romano, Paul Pogba finally leaves Juventus. Chelsea pre-agreement contract in the works. “I want to make one thing clear—my Juventus contract has been terminated. I’m free agent. Pre-contracting with Chelsea is something I owe the club. Their support got me back on the pitch, and now it’s my turn to pay back. I’m grateful for this decision and can’t wait to prove it on the field.”

The French international, who rejoined Juventus in 2022 after a spell at Manchester United, saw his return marred by multiple setbacks, including injuries and a doping suspension. Pogba’s contract termination comes as no surprise, following months of negotiations between his representatives and Juventus as they worked towards an amicable agreement.

Pogba’s time at Juventus was meant to be a fresh start after his inconsistent run with Manchester United. The midfielder was a key signing, brought in to bolster Juventus’ midfield and recapture the form that saw him thrive in his first spell with the Italian giants. However, he struggled to make an impact due to persistent injuries, managing only 12 appearances and a mere 213 minutes of playing time. Just as Pogba seemed to be getting back on track, his positive test for testosterone during a routine check dealt another blow, resulting in a lengthy suspension. Initially, Pogba faced a four-year ban, which was later reduced to 18 months, allowing him to return to training in January 2025 and resume competitive football by March.

Despite the adversity, Pogba remained determined to revive his career. The termination of his contract with Juventus was confirmed, with Pogba making a public statement to clarify his situation. “I want to make one thing clear—my Juventus contract has been terminated. I am now a free agent,” Pogba said. His focus is now on the future, with a significant development on the horizon. “Pre-contracting with Chelsea is something I owe the club. Their support got me back on the pitch, and now it’s my turn to pay back. I’m grateful for this decision and can’t wait to prove it on the field,” he continued.

Pogba’s potential move to Chelsea comes as a surprise to some, given the various clubs that had been linked to him. Initially, Pogba was tipped for a possible move to the Saudi Pro League, following the trend of high-profile players making lucrative transfers to the Middle East. However, it appears that Pogba has set his sights on remaining in Europe, where he feels he still has much to offer at the highest level of football. Chelsea, a club undergoing its own period of transition and rebuilding, could provide the platform Pogba needs to get his career back on track.

Chelsea’s interest in Pogba is also a reflection of their faith in his ability to bounce back from recent challenges. Pogba is still regarded as one of the most talented midfielders in the world when fit, and Chelsea’s willingness to take a chance on him highlights their belief that he can return to his best form. For Pogba, the opportunity to play in  the Premier League once again, this time under a new set of circumstances, is something he seems eager to embrace.

Pogba’s legacy is undeniable. A World Cup winner with France in 2018, he has 91 caps for his country and has been a key figure on the international stage. His club career, however, has been more checkered. After a promising start at Juventus in his first spell, Pogba moved to Manchester United in 2016 for a then-record transfer fee. Although he showed flashes of brilliance at United, consistency often eluded him, and his time there was frequently overshadowed by injuries, off-field distractions, and questions about his commitment to the club.

Now, as he looks to the future, Pogba is motivated by the desire to prove his doubters wrong and to show that he can still perform at the highest level. His move to Chelsea could be the perfect environment for him to do just that. The London-based club, which has undergone significant changes in management and squad composition in recent seasons, is in need of experienced leaders on the pitch, and Pogba’s experience and skill set could prove invaluable.

As Pogba prepares to begin a new chapter in his career, both Chelsea and their fans will be hoping that the French midfielder can recapture the form that made him one of the most exciting talents in world football.

For Pogba, it’s a chance at redemption—a chance to show that, despite the setbacks, he still has plenty to offer. As he himself said, “I can’t wait to prove it on the field.”
