There will be talk recently about the fact that Barcelona president Joan Laporta has signed a new technical director during the next season, as a replacement for Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi, who announced his deception from the Catalan team after losing to Villarreal at the Montjujuc Stadium with a score that weakened the team’s chances in competing for the League.
According to what was reported and revealed by the Spanish newspaper “Sport”, Joan Laporta contacted the club’s former coach, the Dutchman Frank Rijkaard, proposing that he return to his position 16 years after his departure.
The newspaper added that Laporta contacted the Dutch coach to try to convince him to succeed Xavi next season, but he stressed the difficulty of this happening, due to Rijkaard being away from training since 2013.
Rijkaard is considered one of the most prominent coaches of the Blaugrana, as he took charge of the team for 5 seasons, between 2003 and 2008, and succeeded in leading the team to win the Spanish League title twice and the Champions League once in 2006.
The newspaper added that Xavi Hernandez, the current coach of the Catalan team, made the decision to leave the Camp Nou at the end of the current season after leaving the Spanish King’s Cup, losing by five to Villarreal in La Liga, and losing the Super Cup.
