FC Barcelona’s winless streak in La Liga has extended to three games after they suffered a 2-1 loss to relegation-battlers Las Palmas at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys. The Catalan side’s poor performance was compounded by an injury to Alejandro Balde in the first half.
Las Palmas took the lead early in the second half through Sandro Ramirez, but Raphinha equalized for Barcelona shortly after. However, Fabio Silva scored the winner for Las Palmas, sealing a surprise victory for the visitors.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick was critical of his team’s performance, stating that they did not play well enough to win. Flick expressed frustration with his team’s inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities, saying, “We didn’t play well. The team tried to get a good result, but today was not our day. We were not effective and did not take advantage of the chances we had.”
Flick also acknowledged that his team’s inability to control the game and create scoring opportunities has been a problem in recent matches. “When we control the games, we are able to play well and generate chances, but when we don’t, this is our problem,” he said.
The German tactician emphasized that the team’s struggles are not solely the responsibility of the defense, but rather a collective issue. “It’s not a defense thing, it’s a whole team thing. We have to defend better and if you don’t score a goal, it’s more difficult to keep a clean sheet,” he said.
Flick also provided an update on Lamine Yamal, who made his return from injury in the match. “After two weeks without training with the team, it’s good that he can come back and play a few minutes, also in view of the next game against Mallorca. It’s positive that he has played 45 minutes and can presumably play as a starter against Mallorca,” he said.
