According to information from the Spanish newspaper ‘‘El Nacional‘‘, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has not had the ideal season he hoped for, prompting the Catalan coach to plan a restructuring of the team for next season with the goal of regaining European dominance. In this context, Guardiola has set his sights on two of Barcelona’s most prominent players: Brazilian winger Rafinha and young defender Pau Coparsi.

However, the Spanish coach’s ambitions are hampered by Barcelona’s strong desire to retain both players, as they are considered an essential part of the new coach Hansi Flick’s project.

Rafinha is one of Guardiola’s top targets, especially after his impressive performances this season. His brilliance in big matches, ability to play on both flanks, speed, and individual skills make him an ideal choice for Guardiola’s attacking system.

Despite this, Barcelona’s management is not considering letting the player go. President Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have already begun talks to renew Rafinha’s contract until 2029, a move aimed at protecting him from potential foreign offers. Flick also believes Rafinha is an irreplaceable player in his starting lineup, making his exit almost impossible without an exceptional offer.

The other name on Guardiola’s list is Pau Coparsi, the young defender who has caught the eye this season with his strong performances at the heart of Barcelona’s defense. Despite his young age (18), Coparsi has shown remarkable maturity and confidence, cementing a place in the starting lineup. His precise passing, excellent positioning, and calm under pressure have attracted interest from several top European clubs, most notably Manchester City.

Guardiola sees Cubarsi as City’s future defensive leader, but he is aware of the difficulty of signing him. Barcelona considers him a key pillar of the new project, just like Pedri and Gavi, and the player himself doesn’t want to leave the club, dreaming of a long career at Camp Nou.

Barcelona shows no willingness to negotiate the sale of any of its players. The club’s relative improvement in financial position has allowed it to reject offers without having to liquidate its star players—a fact confirmed by the club’s management, given their importance to the team’s sporting future.

Manchester City may attempt to tempt the Catalan club with large offers during the transfer window, but current indications suggest that Barcelona will not give up Rafinha or Coparsi. Guardiola’s desire is clear, but the club’s decision is final: no star players will be sold.
