FC Barcelona has publicly said that it will buy a new player who was on loan from another team last season.
“FC Barcelona and Los Angeles FC have agreed to the transfer of player Mamadou Mbacke Fall. He will sign a contract for two seasons, finishing on June 30, 2026, with the opportunity to extend it for two more years,” the statement said.
“The Senegalese center defender played for Barça Atlètic on loan from the American team last year.”
“The actual act of signing the contract will not happen yet,” the letter said.
As was already said, Mbacke played for the Catalans’ reserve team, Barça Atlético, last season. He was praised as a “center back who stands out for being great in the air.”
At the end of last season, after a good season under Rafa Marquez, who is no longer the head coach of Barcelona Atletic, Mundo Deportivo claimed that talks were underway to buy Mbacke fully for $4 million plus bonuses.
There were also rumors that Mbacke might be moved up to the first team or at least train with it with his fellow countryman Mika Faye. That’s why many people were surprised when Mbacke posted on Instagram at the end of last month that he was leaving.
To go along with his goodbye post, Mbacke wrote in Catalan and French, “Hi Culers, it’s been nothing but a nice trip sharing moments as a teammate and as a fan.”
“When I came here, my goal was to get Barcelona back to where it belongs, but that wasn’t God’s will.”
“I’m thrilled to be a part of you; I loved every minute of it.” “Thank you all, it was a short trip,” Mbacke said as he left.
But on July 8, SPORT said that Barcelona and Mbacke had come to a “total agreement” to buy the player. The deal has now been completed two weeks later.
Even though Mbacke is now a regular member of the Barcelona Athletic team, it is still possible that the club will try to sell him if the right offer comes in during the summer transfer window.
