Manchester United is actively pursuing the acquisition of Ronald Araujo from Barcelona before the start of the Euros.
According to the latest report from Sport, Barcelona has identified potential targets to strengthen their squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, the club faces a significant financial constraint and must make a substantial sale before the European Championships to generate funds.
In this context, the transfer of Uruguayan international Ronald Araujo is gaining traction as a viable option. Sport reports that Manchester United is keenly interested in securing Araujo’s signature, with his potential sale estimated to yield around £69 million (80 million euros).
Notably, Bayern Munich is also expressing interest in the talented South American center-back, who has been a key figure for Barcelona under the management of Xavi.
Barcelona has earmarked two primary targets: Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich and Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao. While progress has been made in negotiations for these preferred signings, the completion of deals is contingent upon securing the necessary funds.
The departure of Araujo could provide the financial boost Barcelona requires, as the 25-year-old possesses the quality to bolster Manchester United’s fragile defensive line. The Red Devils have struggled defensively this season, conceding a total of 56 goals in the Premier League. Therefore, acquiring a top-class center-back like Araujo would address a critical need for Manchester United.
It’s worth noting that Araujo would potentially forfeit Champions League football for the next season should he decide to join Manchester United. However, the allure of playing for a prestigious club like United could outweigh this consideration for the talented defender.
