Bayern Munich may end up convincing key Barcelona target to stay

Since the departure of Sergio Busquets from the club, FC Barcelona have been looking for another midfielder pivot who can replace him in their midfield.

In the last two years, they have been linked with several players for this purpose, but one of the players who has been linked with them most consistently is the Bayern Munich star, Joshua Kimmich.

The German’s contract with the Bavarian club expires at the end of this season, and the negotiations between the two parties for a renewal have been far from smooth. There were times when it looked almost certain that he will leave Munich in 2025, but things have taken another turn for now.

The Spanish publication SPORT cites the German newspaper Bild to claim that Kimmich is now getting closer to signing this renewal with the Bavarian giants. The player is now more open to staying at his current club after the appointment of Vincent Kompany, and Bayern have also offered him the captaincy of the team in this new contract.

His performances on the pitch also make it clear that Kimmich is more comfortable under the new coach, and he is not receiving as much criticism as he did in the last few months.

Thus, the soap opera that linked the German midfielder with Barcelona over the last few years might be approaching its conclusion. Both Xavi and Flick were reported to be admirers of the midfielder and saw him as the ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets.

However, Bayern Munich’s asking price for the player and the weak financial muscle of the Blaugranes made it an impossible move.More Stories / Latest News

Meanwhile, the emergence of Marc Bernal and Marc Casado have also eliminated the need for Kimmich in this Barcelona team to some extent.

Real Madrid were also linked with Kimmich as they look to replace Toni Kroos in their squad, but Bayern are looking likely to emerge the winners in this whole affair in the coming weeks.
