Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski is back at his best this season and looks nailed-on to win the Pichichi Trophy even though less than a third of the La Liga campaign has been played so far.
However, by the time the next season comes around, the veteran striker will be 37 years old and as such Barça are thinking about the future and have identified some possible long-term replacements for the Pole.
Erling Haaland of Manchester City appears to be the great desire of Barcelona president Joan Laporta. But with difficulties expected in pursuit of the Norwegian, other options are also being studied, one of whom happens to be Viktor Gyokeres.
Indeed, the Blaugrana are looking at the Sporting CP striker, who has been in red-hot form since last season, as an option to replace Lewandowski at the club.
Gyokeres will cost €60-70 million
Now, according to a report from German journalist Florian Plettenberg, it would take a transfer fee of around €60-70 million for any club to sign Gyokeres from Sporting CP.
As mentioned earlier, Barcelona like the 26-year-old Swede, who has already scored 14 goals in 14 games this season.
However, as per the update from Plettenberg, Gyokeres is a hot commodity in the Premier League as clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are all showing an interest in him.
Gyokeres has a contract with Sporting until 2028 with the deal containing a massive release clause worth €100 million.
However, as per the report, there is a gentleman’s agreement between the player and the Portuguese club for them to sell him if an offer of around €60-70 million were to arrive.
A departure in the winter is not a possibility, but Gyokeres is expected to be on the move come summer of 2025.
With Barcelona now being made aware of how much it would cost to sign the 26-year-old, it remains to be seen if they decide to go after the Swede or explore other options.
