Barcelona open to selling €60 million-rated midfielder

Barcelona may face a significant shake-up next summer as reports from Fichajes suggest that Frenkie de Jong could be sold.

The Dutchman, who has been an integral part of the team since his arrival, is reportedly on the market due to the club’s ongoing financial challenges and sporting priorities.

De Jong, under contract with Barcelona until 2026, has consistently proven his worth with commanding performances in midfield. Despite his evident importance, the Catalan giants are in the midst of financial restructuring.

Barcelona have set a price

This situation has left them considering the possibility of selling one of their most valuable assets to stabilise their economic position.

Reports indicate that Barcelona could demand a fee close to €50 million for De Jong, a sum that could significantly aid their efforts to strengthen other areas of the squad.

While the player has expressed his desire to remain at the club, he has not entirely dismissed the prospect of exploring new opportunities.

De Jong’s skill set—his ability to control the tempo of games, deliver precise passes, and break defensive lines with the ball—makes him an attractive option for several top European clubs.

These qualities have established him as one of the most sought-after midfielders in the game, ensuring Barcelona will not struggle to find potential suitors.

A calculated decision

From Barcelona’s perspective, parting ways with De Jong could be a calculated decision. The funds generated from his transfer would not only help balance the books but also provide resources to invest in areas requiring reinforcement.

For De Jong, this could mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter, with multiple clubs likely vying for his signature and offering him a fresh challenge at the highest level.

As things stand, the summer of 2025 looks set to play a crucial role in determining De Jong’s future.

Whether he stays to fulfil his contract or embarks on a new journey elsewhere, his departure would signal a significant shift in Barcelona’s plans, both on and off the pitch.
