Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti made exciting statements following the draw with Manchester City in the Champions League.
The match between the Royal Club and its counterpart City, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the 2023-2024 Champions League, was held on Tuesday evening.
On the pitch of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the home of the Merengues, the home team witnessed a positive draw with the visiting team, with a score of three goals to one.
Ruben Diaz (own goal), Rodrigo Goes and Federico Valverde each scored for Los Blancos, while Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gvardiol scored a hat-trick for City.
The return match between the two teams is scheduled to be held within the same round, at Etihad Stadium, the stronghold of Manchester, on Wednesday, April 17th.
Carlo spoke during the press conference after the match, saying: “Lunin played very well. The second and third goals came into the top corner, and were impossible to save. “I don’t think the first goal affected him.”
He continued: “In the return match, we have the option of relying on Nacho and Militao. Yes, we wanted to cause a surprise with Vinicius in the middle and Rodrigo on the left, and we succeeded in that and I am satisfied.”
He added: “I am completely satisfied, it was a good and very equal match. We started very poorly but then we played very well. When we lose energy we become worse. They scored two beautiful goals.”
He continued: “We could have won, but we were also at risk of losing. It is a fair result. We want to play the same match in Manchester. Let’s see what happens.”
He continued: “Change in tactics? I wanted Rodrygo to maintain his form on the left flank and for Vinicius to adapt very well to this new position. “I loved my players tonight.”
The Spanish newspaper “Marca” confirmed that Perez warned Ancelotti against losing the second leg with a heavy result, as happened last season, and that if this happened, it might end in the dismissal of the Italian coach at the end of the season.
