Real Madrid legend Raul has addressed rumors linking him with a potential promotion to replace Carlo Ancelotti as Los Blancos’ next manager. Ancelotti’s future has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, with multiple reports suggesting he could depart at the end of the season.
Real Madrid suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat against arch-rivals Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday, April 26. They were also knocked out of the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Arsenal.
In La Liga, Los Blancos trail Barcelona by four points with just five matches remaining. As a result, speculation over Ancelotti’s position has intensified.
Raul, who has been managing Real Madrid Castilla since 2019, has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed the Italian coach. Addressing the speculation, Raul emphasized that he is staying calm and putting his trust in the club’s decisions. Speaking to Tribal Football, he said:
“I’m happy to be here; I’m in the place I want to be. When the time comes to evaluate and when the club makes decisions—if they ever make them, which I don’t know—we’ll see.”
He further added:
“Right now, the most important thing is to remain calm and focused. We’re at the end of the season, and there’s still a lot at stake. There will be time to evaluate and make decisions that could impact the club—and personally, myself—but I’m very calm.”
Raul is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever to wear the Real Madrid and Spain shirts. During his illustrious 16-year career at the Santiago Bernabéu, he made 741 appearances, scoring 323 goals and providing 135 assists.
