Manchester United have entered a new era with a new head coach at the helm – Ruben Amorim who hopes to be the first since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson to lead the club into a successful era and win the Premier League again.
Having proved his credentials for Sporting CP for many seasons now, it is natural that Amorim has received the call from Manchester United.
Quite similar to Erik ten Hag who was a huge success at Ajax though, Amorim will need to be at the top of his game in the Premier League.
The Portuguese tactician will undoubtedly come in with his ideas and the players he wants to play in the 3-4-3 system that he is likely to use. One player, as per Catalan outlet, Nacional, that Amorim has asked Man Utd to sign is Fermin Lopez.
Amorim has, as per the report, asked Sir Jim Ratcliffe to offer £41.5m to Barcelona to secure the signature of the Olympic Games Football MVP who has apparently become an obsession for the 39-year-old ex-Sporting manager.
The 21-year-old broke in out of nowhere under Xavi Hernandez last season but the lack of a pre-season and an injury means he is yet to establish himself as a regular starter under Hansi Flick.
The report claims that Fermin isn’t happy with the subsidiary role that he is being forced to play so far this season.
If Man Utd sign Fermin, he could play as one of the wide forwards in the front 3 and his natural goalscoring instinct makes him the perfect candidate to play this role. He is also excellent at starting a press and winning the ball back.
Lopez is a player who comes with his limitations. However, his upsides more than make up for the downsides and it remains to be seen how this particular transfer saga works out for Manchester United going forward.
