Barcelona is not prepared to make a significant push this summer to re-sign Joao Cancelo. Although the club is interested in bringing Cancelo back on loan from Manchester City, negotiations have stalled due to the high €30m price tag and Barcelona’s reluctance to meet those demands.
Despite interest from two Saudi Arabian clubs willing to meet the asking price, Barcelona is focused on negotiating a loan deal and may not even cover Cancelo’s full salary. The club is counting on agent Jorge Mendes to facilitate the arrangement in the coming month.
Barcelona’s confidence in their current squad is a key factor in their reluctance to push for Cancelo. They are considering utilizing Jules Kounde in the right-back position again this season and have promising young players like Hector Fort and Julian Araujo as alternatives.
With Alejandro Balde injured, Cancelo played less as a right-back last season and struggled in key matches toward the end. While Barcelona would like to have him available, his performances last season did not indicate he would be indispensable for the team this summer.
