One of Barcelona’s prominent players is close to leaving, in the current summer Mercato, by a joint decision by Laporta and German coach Hansi Flick.
Barcelona is seeking to carry out a comprehensive restructuring of the team in order to return strongly to competing for titles after a disappointing season in which the team lost all the championships it competed for.
According to information received from the Spanish newspaper “Sport”, the matter concerns the Spanish player, Sergi Roberto, who was close to renewing his contract with Barca, which expires at the end of this month, but the situation has turned upside down in recent days.
The newspaper added that the Barcelona administration proposed to the player, weeks ago, to extend his contract for one season, in addition to another optional one, and Roberto agreed to the duration of the contract and its financial conditions, which included reducing his salary.
But Barcelona recently offered Roberto to add a clause to the contract that allows the club to terminate it, in mid-August, if the club is unable to register the player, in accordance with the Financial Fair Play Law.
Neither the Barcelona captain nor his representatives expected this clause from Barcelona officials, but the player is still committed to continuing, and is inclined to talk with the club to reach a point of agreement.
The newspaper added that there is a state of dissatisfaction prevailing among Sergi Roberto and those around him due to Barcelona’s dealings with him regarding the renewal of his contract, which will expire at the end of the current season.
After Barcelona welcomed Roberto to stay, the picture changed and talk began about the club’s priorities in registration, the margin of fair play and other obstacles, as the club told Sergei that if he was not registered and the season started, he could not receive any compensation.
The newspaper concluded that what Barcelona is doing with Roberto now is a kind of indirect expulsion, which makes the player’s continuation unlikely.
