Real Madrid fans were caught off guard when rumours broke out yesterday that the club had decided not to pursue a move for Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman has been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu for years and with his contract set to run out next summer, that news certainly came out of the blue.
It remains to be seen how accurate it turns out to be. Most fans have been left confused though as to why the club would not want to sign Mbappe if he does end up becoming a free agent next summer.
Mbappe’s current contract with PSG is set to run out next summer and it does not feel like he is close to an extension at the moment. But it appears that there are multiple reasons why Real Madrid might not want to sign Mbappe.
As reported by Cadena SER, the first of them has to do with the salary scale. The second reason is related to the current transfer policy. And finally, Real Madrid did not like the Frenchman’s decision two seasons ago when he accepted PSG’s offer and renewed with the Ligue 1 club.
3 reasons Real Madrid don’t want to sign Kylian Mbappe
With the amount of twists and turns that have been their in the Mbappe saga over the years, nothing should come as a surprise anymore. The only thing we can do is wait and watch how things play out.
These rumours have broken out just days after Real Madrid made an official announcement clarifying they had not been in negotiations with Mbappe. Thus, the timing is certainly very interesting.
Real Madrid do need a centre-forward for the future. And someone like Mbappe could be perfect for that role, especially if he is available as a free agent next summer. Liverpool have also been linked with him in recent weeks.
