Veteran guitarist Ted Nugent didn’t hold back in a recent rant targeting some of rock and hip-hop’s biggest names. Speaking candidly on his YouTube channel in early 2026, the 77-year-old musician criticized Eminem, Jack White, and Green Day, calling them “total idiots” and questioning their intelligence when it comes to the politics of U.S. immigration and the country’s leadership.
Nugent specifically took aim at Jack White and Eminem’s November NFL Thanksgiving halftime performance in Detroit. While he acknowledged that the musicians delivered energetic performances, he slammed their political views. “Both of those guys, Eminem and Jack White: total idiots,” Nugent said. He claimed they support policies that would undermine women’s sports and national security, and accused them of being willing to “invite jihadists in” to the country.
Despite the harsh words about their political stances, Nugent praised their musical talent. He described White’s performance as “real rock and roll” with plenty of energy and grit, even if he personally didn’t rank them among the top performers in rock history. Nugent also acknowledged that Eminem and Green Day create “soulful” music, showing that his critique was aimed more at their political beliefs than their artistry.
The rocker didn’t stop there. He also criticized Green Day, suggesting that there is “not a brain amongst them,” referring to the band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello also came under fire, with Nugent calling out his so-called activism and arguing that Morello is “the machine” rather than someone challenging it.
Nugent framed his commentary around a broader view of patriotism, insisting that musicians and public figures should support secure borders and uphold American values. He challenged his targets to defend their positions, questioning their motives while emphasizing his belief that artistic talent does not excuse political beliefs. The fiery statements continue Nugent’s long-standing tradition of speaking bluntly about politics and culture in the music world.
