FC Barcelona has ruled out the signing of Joshua Kimmich. The Catalans have blind faith in Marc Bernal and believe that the German has no place in the team
The future of Joshua Kimmich is more uncertain than ever. The player’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season, and despite the Bavarians’ intention to extend his stay at the club, it was recently revealed that they had withdrawn the renewal offer to the midfielder due to the impossibility of reaching a financial agreement.
Despite being one of the key pieces of Vincent Kompany’s team, players like Alphonso Davies and Harry Kane are positioned well above him on the salary scale, a situation that does not sit well with the German, who believes he should receive a salary commensurate with his status in the squad. However, the Munich side has remained firm in their position of not exceeding their salary cap, and negotiations with the player have broken down.

This situation has sparked rumors about Kimmich’s future, with FC Barcelona being one of the clubs linked to him for the summer. The Blaugrana entity has been tracking the German for several years, and they even attempted to sign him in the last two summer windows, but their financial ‘fair play’ issues prevented the operation from going through.
Barça ‘passes’ on signing Kimmich
However, now that they are back to the 1:1 rule and with their finances increasingly healthy, the Catalans could indeed afford to sign Joshua during the next transfer market, but now a key reason has led the club to rule it out. According to ‘Relevo’, the Catalans believe that the midfielder has no place in Hansi Flick’s starting eleven.
On the right side, Jules Koundé has established himself as the best in the world in his position, while the presence of Pedri, Casadó, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and especially Marc Bernal, leaves him without space in the team. Barça has blind faith in the 17-year-old academy player, who is currently recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and external meniscus in his left knee suffered against Rayo on August 13, which required him to undergo surgery.
The evolution of Bernal is going smoothly, and within the Blaugrana institution, they are confident that next season will be his breakthrough in the first team, which is why the pivot position is more than covered. For this reason, the sports management, led by Deco, will focus their efforts on adding depth in other positions such as full-backs and forwards. A busy summer is approaching in the Catalan capital.
