Deco turns down chance to sign Joshua Kimmich and Virgil van Dijk for Barcelona

Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly not interested in signing either Joshua Kimmich or Virgil van Dijk this summer.

Diario Sport claim that both players have been offered to Barcelona, as they are coming to the end of their exisiting contracts, but Deco replied with a “resounding no.”

Barcelona have long been linked with a move for Kimmich, but it’s said that Deco isn’t keen as he thinks the team are well stocked already, particularly in midfield with Marc Casado, Marc Bernal, Gavi, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong around.

The same is true when it comes to Van Dijk. Barca already have Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo, Inigo Martinez, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen and are expected to sign Jonathan Tan as a free agent too.

Age is also a factor in Deco’s thinking. Kimmich has just turned 30, while Van Dijk will celebrate turning 34 in the summer.

As things stand, it does look like both players could stay where they are. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said said recently contract talks with Kimmich are progressing, while Van Dijk is being tipped to sign on at Liverpool.
