While Paige Bueckers continues to shine in the 3-on-3 Unrivaled league, leading the expansion Breeze to a strong 2–1 start, uncertainty is building around her WNBA home in Dallas. Away from the court, the Dallas Wings are confronting delays that could impact the franchise’s long-term vision, raising concerns about infrastructure and stability just as the team enters a crucial phase of its future.
Those concerns became public when Wings CEO Greg Bibb confirmed that the organization’s much-anticipated $49 million practice facility will not open until 2027. The announcement marked a significant shift from the original timeline and represented a setback for a franchise eager to provide elite resources for its players. The delay complicates plans that were meant to modernize the team’s operations and enhance player development.
Compounding the issue, the Wings’ proposed move into the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center—also known as Dallas Memorial Auditorium—has also been postponed by another year. The venue has been selected as the International Broadcast Center for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, forcing the team to remain at its current home longer than expected. Since relocating from Tulsa in 2016, the Wings have played at UT Arlington’s College Park Center, a venue that seats just over 6,200 fans.
The planned move was expected to signal growth. Under a 15-year, $19 million lease agreement, Dallas Memorial Auditorium was set to be expanded to hold 8,400 spectators. Alongside that, designs for the new 70,700-square-foot practice facility suggested a state-of-the-art environment, complete with two basketball courts, an expansive locker room, and dedicated strength and conditioning space intended to rival the league’s best.
Despite the frustration, Bibb expressed continued faith in the city’s leadership and its long-term downtown vision. Still, the timing is far from ideal. With Bueckers emerging as one of the league’s brightest stars and the Wings holding the top pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, expectations are rising. The foundation for a promising era is in place, but without upgraded facilities, the franchise may struggle to fully capitalize on its momentum.
