Christensen’s future at Barcelona hangs in the balance amid injury struggles

Andreas Christensen’s time at Barcelona continues to be overshadowed by recurring injuries, with the Danish defender still struggling to regain fitness this season. Since playing 26 minutes in the opening La Liga game against Valencia, the defender has faced multiple setbacks, including Achilles tendinopathy and a recent soleus muscle injury.

The club has acknowledged that Christensen’s Achilles problem has been an ongoing problem since the start of the season, with pain management becoming increasingly difficult. “He struggles to tolerate the pain,” sources within Barcelona revealed.

Although his professionalism and versatility have been praised by coach Hansi Flick, his limited availability raises doubts about his future. The defender is under contract until 2026, but Barcelona’s policy of not retaining players entering their final year could force a decision this summer.

The Cule board are reportedly interested in the defender playing more minutes before the end of the season to assess his fitness before negotiating a possible transfer. While Christensen is eager to stay at Barca and prove his worth, the club does not seem convinced.
