Barcelona monitoring number nine with €52m release clause

Barcelona’s recent salary cap struggles once again highlight a familiar truth: long-term planning is difficult in the current financial climate at Camp Nou. Still, one thing is certain—Robert Lewandowski, who turns 37 this summer, is not a sustainable option for the club’s long-term attacking needs.

Despite reportedly agreeing to a one-year extension, Lewandowski’s age means Barça must prepare for the future. While Ferran Torres has filled in as a forward recently, there’s no indication that he’s considered a long-term solution.

Names like Alexander Isak and Benjamin Šeško have popped up on Barcelona’s radar, but high price tags and uncertain availability in the near future make those deals difficult. Now, Moise Kean has emerged as a realistic and intriguing option.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Football Italia, Barcelona are keeping close tabs on the Fiorentina striker, who has finally begun to fulfill his early promise. Kean has been in lethal form, with 21 goals and 3 assists in 35 appearances this season. His resurgence has also attracted interest from Newcastle United, potentially as a replacement for Alexander Isak.

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has admitted interest from other clubs and acknowledged that Kean has a €52 million release clause, valid from July 1 to July 15. Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, he stated:

“I want him to stay. But if he can’t, and somebody makes an offer, we’ll see. I’ll try to retain him because he’s important to Fiorentina.”

Kean, once hailed as a wonderkid at Juventus, endured inconsistent spells at Everton and PSG before returning to Turin. Last summer, he made a €13 million switch to Fiorentina, and this season, the 25-year-old has shown signs of becoming the elite number nine many predicted he’d become.

For Barcelona, a player like Moise Kean—young, athletic, and now hitting his stride—could represent a cost-effective, high-upside investment for the post-Lewandowski era, especially if the club fails to land more expensive targets.
