I had the rare opportunity to show him this piece in 2020, along with the complete collection of all 13 images from 1968. Seeing the full set together again brought back a wave of memories, especially knowing how much time had passed since those moments were first captured.
At the time, I was assigned to guard the dressing rooms at Berkeley’s iconic Greek Theater. Being behind the scenes placed me in a unique position, allowing me to witness quiet, unguarded moments that most people never get to see. It was an experience that felt ordinary then, but meaningful in hindsight.
The image itself was produced from an original Kodachrome slide, preserving the rich tones and authentic feel of the era. That format gives the photograph a timeless quality, reflecting not just what was seen through the lens, but also the atmosphere and emotion of that particular moment in history.
